Ned's Head

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to create something about Ned Kelly. Our famous, rugged bushranger from the early 1800's. So a couple of weeks ago I thought, I wonder if I could do it with metal, so I started to bang, pull, twist and play with some copper sheet metal. Then Ned's head appeared, and the rest just fell into place with making a rather crude hammered steel jump ring chain. In Ned's head is 3 photos of him through different stages of his life which you can view by looking through his slit in his helmet.
Above his helmet is a vintage police buckle that Jen (see she is to blame for all this jewellery making) LOL and hanging from the buckle is an etched brass bullet, representing the many bullets that were fired upon Ned in his famous gun fight at Glenrowen.

More jewellery making going on

Yes I defiently caught the jewellery making bug.. (thanks Jen) Here is another piece I have been playing around with. Again Tim Holtz'z clock faces which I adore, an aged circle mirror with those cute kids from Collections and beautiful crown bezel.
I am loving the process of jewellery making at the moment, the whole piece making, glueing, riveting, screwing, chaining, sawing, etc. Its very fullfilling when something comes togeather and works, and that is pretty too helps..
In regards to some emails I have recieved about selling my jewellery pieces, I have to say I really am in 2 minds at the moment about it. Call it a lack of confidence mainly, but also some of the supplies I use. For example the metal wire and findings that I use are no where near superior like sterling silver or gold in that fact. Many of my pieces are made from annealed steel wire and copper which can and does tarnish and rust with time. So I dont want somebody to return in 2 months time saying my chain has rusted, or links tarnished etc.. And lastly I really wouldnt have a clue on how much to price my items. See its just dilemma after dilemma that I struggle with. I am sure I will come to a decision soon enough, but for now, I am just happy to learn, experiment and create.

Off with her head

While I was making my "Marie Marie" book, I got totally distracted with experimenting, learning and making some jewellery pieces. I unfortunately didnt get down to Melbourne while Susan Lenart Kazmar was out to learn all her tips and tricks. But I was inspired to give many of her techniques a go. So I opened her book, watched her DVD and after the lovely Jen sent me a jewellers saw to play with, I got stuck in.
This piece is inspired by one of Susan's pieces she designed on her DVD, I used one of my favbourite Zettiology stamps as the etched design, I just removed her head. The picture inside the window is an old etching picture of Marie Antionette being lead to her death, hence I have named this piece "off with her head."
Lastlty I would like congratulate my dear friend Jen Crossley on opening her wonderful new website A Mark in time. where there is yummy goodies for making all sorts of wonderful creations.. Go forth, stop by, and enjoy what she has to offer..

Marie Antionette Mixed Media book

Introducing ***Marie Marie***, a mixed media book on Maire Antionette.
I had the great pleasure of taking a weekend class with the uber uber talented Judy Wilkenfeld in late 08 where we learned many of her creative secrets in creating wonderful mixed media books that tell a story.
After the last couple of years of collecting bits and pieces, and getting the story of Marie and the sequence of how "I" wanted her story to be told, she is finally complete. Please enjoy the slide show of her story through my eyes.

Leather cuff.

Here is another cuff I made using Tim Holtz's new alteration die. This one is made from leather that I embossed through the cuttlebug, takes a few rolls but it does emboss, then lightly sand it to really bring the pattern out.

The leather look lace is made from that awful plastic doiley placemats that you can get from Spotlight by the meter. Trim out the pattern that takes your fancy, rub and pounce alcohol ink on the motif until you get the coverage you like, then rub over some rub and buff and you have lace look trim that is not only half the price, but very durable for wearable art. Thanks to the lovely Linda on her lovely comments about my last cuff and if you go to her blog she has a wonderful giveaway. (Linda I pinched your lace idea for behind the cuff too..)LOL

Etched Copper Cuff Bracelet.

After recieving Tim Holtz's new alterations dies from Blue Bazaar the other day, I knew straight away that I wanted to make a cuff bracelet. The only thing was, would it cut through my 24 gauge copper sheet. Yes it does. (though it may damage your die, it didnt mine, though beware)

Once I had die cut the copper, I got on with metal etching using a Technique Tuesday and one of Tim's scroll stamps for the design. Once the etching was complete, I gently bent the copper and one of Tim's ornate bookplates. (another beware they do break easy when trying to be bent), added a Collections pic and filled it with Ice Resin (which if your in Australia) you can buy it from my dear friend and Australia's sole distributor Jen Crossley. And 'viola' cuff made.

Jewellery

Last weekend I had the greatest pleasure of doing some wonderful jewellery classes my dear and wonderfully talented friend Jen Crossley. She taught a wide array of techniques including making bezels and using the wonderful ice resin. Here are the bezels we made and a big thank you to Jen for wiring my birdcage for me, these fingers of mine just dont have it when it comes to the fiddly stuff these days. Love you woman..LOL So in the last few days I have been madly finishing the bezels and attaching Jens pewter twigs and making them into necklaces. And this comes from a woman who always said, "I dont do jewellery" Thanks Jen for another addiction for collecting and making jewellery..

Thank you book

I made this little book for a dear friend Ness for putting up with me the whole weekend just passed so I could catch up with another dear friend Jen and do Jens wonderful classes.
The front and back covers are replicas of a tin type album. I made a silicon mould of the album, then squished in some polymer clay and baked in the oven until they were hard. Added paint, and then some rub and buff and you have album covers without ever using the real one, or until you want to.

Wednesday Wishes beautiful christmas doors.

A little over a week before Christmas I ordered the most gorgeous kits from the most wonderfully talented girls Maxine and Audrey from Wednesday Wishes The door kits arrived a week before Christmas and I scrounged to find the time to do them.
Maxine and Audrey displayed their beautiful doors in the most beautiful canvas I think I have seen, and I had to do it just like theirs. It turned out so lovely I am so pleased with it. I dont buy kits often but Wednesday Wishes beautiful creations, easy to follow instructions will defiently have me going back for some more beautiful, well detailed kits. If your after something that bit different and beautiful I highly recommend Wednesday Wishes..
